How do I protect my facility from Coronavirus?

  • There is currently no vaccine to prevent Coronavirus (COVID-19).

  • The best way to prevent illness is to completely avoid being exposed to the virus.

  • Current CDC and WHO guidance tells us that the virus is spread predominantly through person-to-person interactions.
    • Between individuals who are in close contact with one another (Approximately 6 feet)
    • Through droplets of saliva or nose discharge when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks.
    • The droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people nearby and can be inhaled through the lungs.
    • Recent studies show that COVID-19 can be spread by people who are not showing any symptoms.

  • Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, this is especially important after being in a public place, after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
    • Other important times to wash hands include:
      • Before eating or preparing food
      • Before touching your face
      • After using the restroom
      • After leaving a public place
      • After blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing
      • After handling a cloth face covering (Mask)
      • After caring for sick individuals
      • After touching pets or animals
    • When soap and water is not readily available, utilize hand sanitizer that contains 60% alcohol. Spread thoroughly over your hands and rub them together until they feel dry.

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands

  • Cover all coughs and sneezes
    • Always cover your mouth and nose with either a tissue or the inside of your elbow when you cough or sneeze, avoid spitting.
    •  Throw away used tissues in the garbage.
    • Immediately wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer containing 60% alcohol if soap and water is not readily available.

  • The CDC recommends cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces daily. Some surfaces include things such as, tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets, and sinks.
  • If surfaces are dirty prior to disinfecting they should be cleaned using adequate cleaning methods.
  • To disinfect the CDC recommends using a disinfectant cleaner from the EPA-registered household disinfectants list. (List-N: Disinfectants for use against SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19))

  • Be alert for symptoms. Such as, fever, cough, shortness of breath.
  • Take your temperature if symptoms appear
  • Follow CDC guidance if symptoms develop.
  • Stay home if you feel sick or have a sick family member living with you.
